How is the TM joint affected in a motor vehicle accident?

Many of the patients who are involved in motor vehicle accidents in which a neck injury occurs, also damage either one or both TMJs, producing many of the previously mentioned symptoms. Studies of hundreds of cervical strain/sprain, and neck injury patients have demonstrated this fact. The most common injury to the joints upon violent trauma, such as hyperextension and hyperflexion is a “slipped disk.”
